Give us a call if you start to spot these trends.

If we’re not careful, we can take our gutters for granted.

They’re easy to ignore, and you’re typically not outside watching them perform when it’s raining. But when they’re neglected, your gutters can present costly problems for your house. Thankfully, those problems can be easily resolved.

In this blog post, we want to explain the signs that your gutters need to be cleaned.

#1: Water Spills Out Over Them

You have gutters to protect the sides of your home from the effects of rainwater. However, when your gutters are clogged with debris, then rainwater only has one place left to go: down the side of your home. If you start to see water stains along the side of your house, then you know you’ve got a problem.

#2: Debris Makes the Gutters Droop

Gutters can only hold a certain amount of weight. We don’t think about that often because when they’re functioning properly, gutters only hold water while it’s being directed away from the side of your home. Gutters weren’t built to hold both debris and water that has nowhere to go. The result? Your gutters will be damaged and you’ll notice that they’re starting to sag.

#3: Animals, and Even Plants, are Living in Them

Debris in gutters can make for comfortable spaces for little critters like squirrels to make new homes. Or maybe some birds keep finding rest in one of your gutters. Or even you start to notice that seeds have sprouted into plants where water is supposed to flow freely. We love nature, but we don’t want any creatures living in our homes when we didn’t invite them. You don’t want that, either.

#4: You Don’t Know if the Gutters Have Ever Been Cleaned

If you can’t think of the last time you cleaned your gutters, then it’s at least worth keeping an eye out for the factors we listed. You might not need to call us right away, but we recommend keeping an eye on your gutters in case any of the above-mentioned signs start to appear.
